The Nike Zoom Fly 4 are neutral competition shoes. Inspired by the groundbreaking Vaporfly, the shoe is designed for long-distance running. Compared to the Fly 3, the upper has been changed, making it more breathable.

The upper consists of light mesh. This makes the upper softer and more breathable. The upper also adapts to your foot. It also barely retains moisture. This way the upper remains lightweight during your competition. The lacing system with a supportive band at the arch provides stability and a locked-in feel without pinching.

The midsole of the Nike Zoom Fly 4 consists of Nike's popular React material. This material is known for its high energy return and responsive feel. Sandwiched between the layers of React foam is a carbon fiber sole, also known as a Carbon Fiber plate. This plate acts as a kind of coil spring. It propels you forward as you run and contributes to the highly responsive feel of the competition shoes. Four individual pieces of fabric are placed in the midfoot that are integrated with the laces. When you pull the laces tight, the fit gets tighter and you experience a firmer feeling. This gives the shoe a firmer fit than its predecessor.

The heel is designed to take tension off the Achilles tendon. As a wear sole, rubber parts have been added at the forefoot and heel. This keeps the weight of the Zoom Fly 4 very low, but adds extra durability.
