We are Runstoppable!
Running essentials for during this second lockdown
The second lockdown is upon us. Winter is on its way too and running during this lockdown therefore asks for a different approach.
So, what running gear do you actually need to stay fit during this lockdown? The most essential part of a running outfit are the shoes. Get yourself a good pair of running shoes and you’re basically ready to go. Everything besides shoes is an extra. However, these extras definitely serve a purpose. They can help you stay motivated, improve your performances, fend off injuries, help you stay dry and comfortable, and overall make running into a lof of fun. It’s of course up to you to decide how much of these extras you need. You’re the expert when it comes to knowing what you need and which conditions you’ll be facing.

QUESTIONS ABOUT RUNNING AND CORONA
We can imagine that you have a number of questions about running while the new restrictions are in place. 21RUN has collected the most frequently asked questions about running during Covid.
DOES THE INTENSITY OF MY WORKOUTS HAVE AN IMPACT ON MY HEALTH?
Yes, intensive workouts temporarily weaken the immune system. This makes you more susceptible to viruses. We therefore recommend that you reduce the intensity of your training. Try to enjoy running and place less emphasis on goals, times and PB’s.
Most of my races have been canceled, HOW CAN I SET challenging NEW GOALS NOW?
The main goal that counts now is that you stay healthy and fit. Most of the races that were coming up have been canceled, so there’s no need to really push yourself to your limits. The risk of setting challenging goals is that you will overstrain your body. Take a different approach to running in these challenging times. Try to place more stress on enjoying the outdoors and enjoying your health.
IS IT SAFE TO run WITH A SMALL GROUP?
At the moment it is only allowed to run outside with one person from another household as long as you stick to the 2 metre distance rule. Nevertheless, we recommend you to go out alone as much as possible. Running alone just is the most responsible option at the moment. Try to keep as much distance as possible from other runners you might encounter and stick to large open areas where it is easy to keep your social distancing.
HOW CAN I MAKE RUNNING MORE FUN WHEN I HAVE TO RUN ALONE?
Enjoy nature and your surroundings! You can also use your surroundings for your training by, for example, accelerating between a certain tree and lamppost. Listening to music or a podcast can also help you enjoy your runs more. Make sure that you stay safe though. With Aftershokz headphones, for instance, you can listen to music and still hear your surroundings, because they don’t block up the ear canals.
WHAT EXERCISES CAN I DO AT HOME TO IMPROVE MY Running PERFORMANCE?
Strength is a good form of training to integrate into your training schedule. It is good for your stamina and helps you prevent, or recover from, injuries.
WHAT CAN I DO IF I WANT TO start with RUNNING now?
Running is a very accessible sport. A good pair of running trainers and a comfortable outfit is enough to get started. Be careful though, injuries can happen if you start too enthusiastically and intensively. We have made a checklist that helps beginners prevent injuries and also offer a number of training plans for different distances.
Take your first steps now: start your running training.
The Corona virus disrupts daily life considerably. Some sports are faced with just a few restrictions where others have been completely cancelled. That is why more and more people turn to running. But when are you actually a beginner when it comes to running? You are definitely not the only one, if you have never exercised or haven’t done any running before. Enthusiastic swimmers, fanatic powerlifters and recreational tennis players are often also part of the beginner category. If normally you exercise several days a week, you will definitely have a good base condition and a fit body. Running burdens your body in a different way though.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Despite the fact that we have to reduce our social contacts as much as possible, you are not alone. We hope that running can help you spend this time in a fun and healthy way. Enjoy your day, think about yourself and each other!
