Meet the adidas Adizero Adios Pro; the new unisex super shoe from adidas. This shoe competes with the fastest marathon shoes out there and might well take the leading position soon. The innovative competition shoes have been developed for running long distances at a high pace. This might well be the fastest adidas shoe ever. These racing shoes feature some of adidas’ latest technologies: such as LightstrikePRO and Carbon-enriched EnergyRods. Read on to find out how these technologies help you stay fast.

The idea for the adidas Adizero Adios Pro came when adidas met with a number of top athletes. These athletes listed a variety of characteristics and features that they would like to find in marathon shoes. Some examples are the stiffness of the shoes, the high energy return, the geometry of the design and the weight, which is kept as low as possible. To have all those requirements reflected in one pair of shoes was challenging, but adidas succeeded. And when Vincent Kipchumba, while wearing the Adios Pro, finished second on the 2020 London Marathon, only seconds behind Shura Kitata, some designers at Adidas must have been exhilarated.

NEW CARBON RUNNING SHOES

Let’s get technical! The midsole of the Adizero Adios Pro is quite technical. It’s made of LightstrikePRO foam and features Carbon-enriched EnergyRods. These EnergyRods are fitted in the midsole underneath the forefoot; think of a few thin bars that are placed lengthwise in the sole. The EnergyRods ensure a high energy return, but also offer a little more flexibility than a full Carbon plate would. The bars follow the anatomy of the feet which provides a natural feel and reduces the physical impact on the body. A short Carbon plate has been added to the heel to stimulate a responsive feel even when landing over the heel. The combination of the Carbon plate under the heel and the EnergyRods in the forefoot provides a powerful heel-to-toe transition.

MORE ENERGY THAN EVER

That energetic, rolling feeling of the Adios Pro doesn’t just come from the Carbon plate or the EnergyRods. The two layers of adidas’ new LightstrikePRO foam are also a key player in this. The cushioning material stores more energy than any other adidas cushioner so far. Of course, storing energy is just half of the process. Returning it, that’s what it’s all about. And that’s exactly what the Adios Pro does; it stores it, returns it, and pushes you forward every step of the way. The shoes are completed with a lightweight Celermesh upper. This almost transparent upper doesn’t sponge up moisture, is made as thin and strong as possible and even offers a bit of support to the feet by giving them a firm hug.

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

What makes the adidas Adizero Adios Pro so exceptional? If we just look at the silhouette of the upper with one eye, we might recognize a touch of the original Adizero Adios and the new Adizero Pro. But the Adizero Adios Pro actually is a completely new shoe. The competition shoes features much more cushioning material than both the Adios 5 and the Adizero Pro. The latter stayed true to the traditional silhouette of competition shoes with a fairly thin midsole and plenty of ground contact. The Adizero Adios Pro is more in line with newer racing shoe philosophies that prefer a thicker midsole with more foam and a Carbon plate.

Not just fast, but WTFAST.

The Adizero family from adidas “makes you feel fast”. It was not so long ago that the the adidas Adizero Pro was added to the Adizero family. The Adizero Pro can be characterized as a classic “racing flat”. The shoes are very light in weight and give you a lot of ground contact. Do you want to run a fast 10 km or half marathon? Then the Adizero Pro is a very good match. Would you rather go for an even faster half marathon or a new record on the marathon? Then it’s time to say ‘adios’ to the Adizero Pro and ‘hola’ to the Adios Pro.

TEAM PERFORMANCE

The Adizero Adios Pro isn’t the brainchild of one brilliant scientist working single-handedly in a lab for years. Instead, the process to get to this impressive shoe has been a true team effort. Starting with the question “how do we create a shoe that is able to break records?”, to a week of testing the first prototypes with athletes in San Diego, to more tests in Iten Kenya with 24 elite athletes and 5 different prototypes, and then all the way back to Germany to put all the feedback and learning together into what became the final prototype. Adi Dassler’s motto “test ’til you drop” was used to its full potential with the development of the Adios Pro.

All biological, anatomical and emotional responses and data were accurately recorded with the most innovative equipment and ultimately led to the brightly coloured final versions of the shoe. The colour was also determined by the athletes. The first adidas Adizero Adios Pro models came in white and were only sold exclusively. The bright, predominantly pink versions, which are being launched worldwide, have been inspired by how athletes feel during their runs. Athletes indicated that the Adios Pro gave them a feeling of energy and top performance, which is expressed in the bright pink colour. The feeling of resilience, calm and ease, also experienced when wearing these trainers, is expressed in the blue colour. The mix of the two created the final colour design.

The Finishing Lines

Let’s put everything into perspective. The Adizero family of adidas is known for its lightweight and highly responsive running shoes. The recently launched adidas Adizero Pro is ideal for competitions with a 10 km or half marathon distance. Is your goal to break records on a half or a full marathon? Then you could employ the Adizero Pro as a fast training shoe, but opt for the adidas Adizero Adios Pro on race day.

When zooming out and placing the Adizero Pro and Adios Pro in the bigger picture of marathon shoes, we would put the Adizero Pro next to HOKA’s EVO Carbon Rocket, Brooks’ Hyperion Tempo, the Nike Zoom Fly 3 and Saucony’s Endorphin Speed. The Adizero Adios Pro can be found next to the Brooks Hyperion Elite 2, the Nike VaporFly and the Saucony Endorphin Pro.Curious? You can shop the new adidas Adizero Adios Pro here in our webshop.
