When Eliud Kipchoge ran the marathon distance in 1:59:40, he was wearing a prototype of the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT%. This extraordinary achievement was the result of years of preparation and a huge highlight in the collaboration between Eliud and Nike. This partnership began in 2017 with Eliud’s attempt to break the two hour barrier. Eliud’s performances has also inspired other top athletes to challenge themselves and break personal records.
AtomKnit upper
Das Nike Innovation Team stellte bei Tests fest, dass der zusätzliche Schaumstoff und die beiden Zoom Air-Kammern unter dem Vorfuß den Schuh insgesamt schwerer machten. Um ein Paar Gramm zu sparen, entwickelte das Team ein neues Flyknit-Obermaterial: AtomKnit. Dieses Material ermöglicht eine leichte, konturierte Passform, nimmt kaum Wasser auf und bietet optimale Belüftung.
Flyplate
Together with the ZoomX foam and the Zoom Air chambers, the full-length carbon fiber plate gives you a dynamic feeling with every step you take. With the Alphafly NEXT%, the thickness of the plate has been adapted to each shoe size: smaller sizes have a less thick and more flexible plate and larger sizes have a thicker and more rigid plate.
ZOOM AIR UNITS
Two Zoom Air units have been integrated underneath the forefoot. These chambers contribute significantly to the Alphafly’s responsive feeling. They return the energy that you put into every step and ensure a light feel. Regardless of whether you are out for a race or quick training, the two Zoom Air units ensure particularly comfortable cushioning.
ZoomX
The Alphafly contains more ZoomX foam than the Vaporfly. This cushioning material is the successful ingredient with which you run more efficiently than with other competition shoes. The ZoomX foam is particularly effective at absorbing vibrations that occur while running, thus reducing the impact on your muscles. This allows you to maintain a high pace for longer period of time.
