The Nike NEXT% family has a new member: the Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT%. With this new training shoe, Nike meets the needs of the fastest athletes of the world. You must have heard about the Vaporfly and Alphafly by now. Where these two models are perfect for race day, the Air Zoom Tempo NEXT% is your fast training shoe. In this blog we take a closer look at this shoe and look at the different layers of the shoe.
With the Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT%, Nike provides a good training shoe with which you can perfectly prepare yourself for your race. At first glance, this shoe looks a lot like the Alphafly NEXT%. Eliud Kipchoge wore the legendary Alpha’s when he ran the marathon in Vienna and broke the two hours time barrier. So, although the Alpha and the Tempo look alike, they definitely aren’t the same.

Keep on flying
The Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT% scores with a Flyknit upper. Flyknit is a special woven material that comfortably hugs your feet and is very breathable. The upper material is seamless and offers a sock-like feel. The asymmetrical lace pattern keeps the feet in place and thanks to the elastic properties ensures enough space for natural heel-to-toe transition. Last but not least, the upper material is durable so that you can enjoy these shoes for many miles to come.
Keeping Pushing Forward
The Zoom Air Pods underneath the forefoot, a feature that we already know from the Alphafly NEXT%, is also found in the Tempo NEXT%. These Pods are two oval air cushions that roll with you during transition and return energy during take off. The Air Zoom Tempo NEXT% is designed for fast runners who want to benefit from a high level of energy return. The pods are placed independently of the foam layers in the midsole, so that you’ll experience exactly the right responsiveness in every phase of your step. The Air Zoom Tempo NEXT% also has a full-length plastic plate that is located above the midsole foam. This plate stabilizes the Air Pods so that you are pushed forward with every step you take. Similar to the notorious carbon plate, this plate also gives the shoe a “stiffer” feel and ensures that the foam technologies are employed to their full potential. A small but subtle difference: the plastic plate is more flexible than the carbon one. This allows your feet to build up more strength during training.
FAST and DURABLE
The most important element of the Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT%, however, still is the foam in the midsole. The midsole of these running shoes consists of two parts. The first of these is the ZoomX foam in the forefoot area. This foam is known for its good cushioning properties and above all for its particularly high energy return. It is also used in the Vaporfly and Alphafly and works perfectly with the rigid plate that is located above the midsole. The second type of foam is the React foam which is placed in the heel area. This foam has established itself in terms of its excellent cushioning and durable characteristics. One thing is certain: you will be perfectly supported in every phase of your step. The outsole is a small layer of blown rubber that has been deliberately kept minimalistic so that the shoe feels soft and isn’t weighed down by an excessive amount of rubber.
Raw Kinetic Family
Nike has done another magic trick! The result: the new Nike Raw Kinetic Pack collection. Nike’s best-known models are featured in this collection. Curious which shoes are members of this pack? We have put them together for you.
Tempo, Tempo!
Do the specs of the Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT% seem familiar? That might be right. Nike has used their latest and best technologies in the Tempo NEXT%. And that’s exactly how Nike managed to create their fastest training shoes. Nike views the Air Zoom Tempo NEXT% as the proud successor to the fast Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2.
The Finishing Lines
The Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT% is a shoe that will go down in the history books faster than the ink dries! Even if the Nike shoe is marketed as a training shoe, you will certainly not lack speed. With the best, current technologies on your feet, you can make a lot of great miles. And even if these shoes are not the perfect partner for during race day, they are perfect for your preparation for all your challenges and races. Nice detail: these performance running shoes are less stiff than the Alphafy, Vaporfly or Zoom Fly, three models that have a carbon plate, and therefore are perfect for building up enough strength to run on the Zoom, Vapor or Alphafly.
