Engineered Mesh Upper
Fresh Foam Midsole
Solid and Protected
Fans of the Fresh Foam Hierro trail shoes will immediately notice that the shoe has changed its looks considerably when compared to its predecessor. The shoes have a rougher but also more fashionable look. In addition to the fact that the upper looks cool, it is also very functional. The upper and the tongue of the shoe are made of one single piece of material. Thanks to this, sticks and rocks won’t penetrate the shoes. The bootie construction that was iconic for the Hierro v4 is not included in the v5. Instead, New Balance has replaced it with a firmer, higher piece on the top of the tongue and has made the heel cap a bit higher. This way your foot stays protected and in its place throughout your runs. The entire Engineered Mesh upper is covered with a thin layer of TPU. This makes the shoes water and dirt resistant. The nose of the shoes features an extra layer of rubber to ensure some extra protection.
X marks the spot
Fresh Foam is almost indispensable in New Balance’s shoes. The Hierro v5 is no exception. New Balance’s responsive Fresh Foam material has again been employed in these models. However, instead of using the regular Fresh Foam material these shoes feature Fresh Foam X material, which is even softer and lighter in weight.
A full-length Fresh Foam X midsole has been used in the New Balance Fresh Foam Hierro v5. This ensures an easy heel-to-toe transition and a lot of energy return without adding a lot of extra weight to the shoes. The structure on the sides of the sole ensures that the Fresh Foam X technology is used to its full potential.
Up and Down
The outsole is one of the most important parts of trail shoes. With the New Balance Fresh Foam Hierro v5, everything an outsole needs has been added. The sturdy Vibram rubber is tacky and ensures good contact with any surface. The studs on the outsole face in two directions and are placed strategically. Thanks to this you will have the right amount of traction up as well as downhill.
The outsole has a small protrusion at the heel. This is done to provide extra grip when descending. The extended outsole guides your feet through transition. Feel secure on every trail.
“Cushioned to commit”
Grip, protection, cushioning and responsiveness, that’s what New Balance trail running shoes are all about. Whether you run long or short distance trails, New Balance will have the right shoes for you.
The New Balance Fresh Foam Hierro v5 is a trail shoe with a completely new look. The technologies are rather familiar though. At New Balance, they have taken the best features from the Hierro v4 and gave it a new skin. Even the famous Fresh Foam has received an update. This foam combined with all the above characteristics make this the ideal trail shoes for long distances.
