Exciting news! There is a new edition of the old familiar ASICS Gel Cumulus: the Gel Cumulus 22. The Cumulus is a very popular ASICS model which is used and loved by neutral runners across the globe. We had a good look at the new and the updated features of this 22nd edition and we checked if the shoe still provides that cloud-like feel that the Cumulus is so famous for. Read on to find out more!
The Gel Cumulus shoes are named after the fluffy cumulus clouds. The shoes are well-known for providing that ‘walking on clouds’ feeling. These new editions are about 20 grams lighter than their predecessor. The lighter the shoes, the closer you get to cloud nine.

A Comfort Upgrade
Last year, the upper of the Gel Cumulus 21 already received an update. Now, in this 22nd version of the shoe, the existing Jacquard upper has been made even more comfortable. The upper still contains the breathable Jacquard Mesh material which keeps your feet cool and dry while running. But with this upgrade, the upper is now also seamless. This helps prevent irritation. Thanks to this seamless upper the shoes also have an improved fit. To score even better in terms of comfort, the Cumulus 22 has a new Ortholite insole. This 2 millimetre thick insole provides that comfortable feel as soon as you stick your foot inside of the shoe. All in all these upgrades take a big step into the direction of more fluffiness and that ‘running on the clouds’ experience.
SMOOTHER AND LIGHTER THAN #21
The renewed FlyteFoam midsole offers more flexibility to the forefoot. Additionally, the deeper flex grooves in the forefoot also provide an effortless gait and improved stability. The midsole and outsole material underneath the heel have been redistributed and now help to ensure a smoother transition. The Gel Cumulus wouldn’t be the Gel Cumulus without the Gel material underneath the heel and forefoot. This Gel material provides extra stability to runners who land on their heels. The 22nd version of the Cumulus is 20 grams lighter than its predecessor. This is mainly thanks to the renewed FlyteFoam midsole. Despite the lighter weight, the shoes are still suitable for middle as well as long distances.
SUSTAINABILITY – EDO TRIBUTE
Like other new ASICS shoes, the Cumulus 22 will also come in several special editions. ASICS is going to release an EDO Tribute line. The models in this series are made of sustainable materials. The EDO Tribute line will feature dark colours: “they come before the sunrise”. After the EDO Tribute, there will also be a Sunrise Red Series, which colours don’t need further explaining. The Cumulus 22 will be part of both lines. In addition to the EDO Tribute and Sunrise Red editions, the Cumulus will also be available in the special Lite-Show and Winterized editions.
