MAKE LOVE TO YOUR FEET
When you ask runners what their most important running gear is, the first thing they say is ‘good, comfortable running shoes’. Sure thing, but if you wear the wrong socks, even the ‘best’ running shoes in the world will not be as effective. Good running socks ensure that you can get the most out of your shoes and that you won’t experience chafing or blisters. When you wear good socks that wick moisture effectively away and are breathable, the risk of irritation is reduced to zero.
The top part of running socks is often a bit thinner to ensure good ventilation. Thanks to this your feet won’t overheat. Some socks or compression sleeves are treated with silver ions. This treatment prevents the spread of bacteria and prevents unpleasant odours. A great example of this are Stance’s very stylish socks which feature Feel360 technology.
Rock your Running Socks
In addition to the material that the socks are made of, their fit is of course also really important. Many models provide an anatomical fit that comes in a left and right foot design. In addition, there are often women’s and men’s versions of running socks, as feet of men and women are often different.
Other characteristics: most of the time, socks have an ergonomic and seamless fit that provides you with as much comfort as possible. Some socks are a little longer and also fit around the Achilles tendons, so that you can enjoy reliable protection there as well.
Did you know? Good running socks also have a supportive effect by offering additional cushioning. They form an important link between foot and shoe, you land more easily and can enjoy a cloud-like running sensation. All those who like to wear longer running socks could check out the Odlo Quarter Socks. You want even longer ones? Have a look at the Odlo Crew Socks. Especially in colder conditions, these socks protect the sensitive area between your tights and shoes.
COMPRESS … WHAT?
You see them more and more often: athletes who wear compression socks that reach up to the knees and have a special colour pattern. An increasing amount of people are wearing compression socks during their runs to improve their performances, reduce recovery time and help prevent injuries. These special tight fitting socks stimulate blood circulation in your legs or calves, which helps prevent muscle pain and cramp during and after training and also speeds up recovery. The compressive fit ensures that your muscles receive more oxygen during training. This means that your legs don’t tire as quickly and that you will be able to master longer distances.
Compression socks come in shorter versions, which provide light compression to the ankle area, and longer versions that support the lower part of the leg. Good to know: unlike running shoes, the decisive criteria for compression socks is not the shoe size, but the calf circumference. This is measured where the calf is the thickest. If your circumference falls in between to sizes, it is usually best to go for the smaller size, as the stockings should of course fit tightly around the muscle. Curious? When do I wear which socks?
Running socks differ in terms of thickness and tissue volume. This can also affect the fit of your running shoes. You should also choose the right socks depending on what for and where you are going to use them. While comfortably padded socks are suitable for a leisurely Sunday run, for speed training and in summer it’s better to go for thinner socks. On the other hand, on competition days or during ultra runs, a bit more padding is a good idea. Whatever running sock you are looking for, you will surely find them at 21RUN!
