Flexibility

We start with the bottom layer; the outsole. Like its predecessor, the Fresh Foam 1080v10 also features Blown Rubber in its outsole, be it in a lesser degree than its predecessor. This ensures that the 1080v10 is lighter in weight than the v9, without surrendering its cushioning qualities. New Balance also had a good look at the pattern of the outsole. The profile has been positioned to provide the ultimate amount of traction. Strategically placed grooves have also been added to ensure that the sole is flexible. The outsole has flex grooves on the forefoot as well as underneath the heel. This so-called “crash pad” is especially beneficial to runners who land on their heels. The transition of the feet is smoothened out.

Fresher Foam

The 10th versions of the Fresh Foam 1080 doesn’t just feature New Balance’s famous Fresh Foam. It actually employs Fresh Foam X, the next generation of foam. This foam has all the familiar Fresh Foam characteristics, but is lighter in weight and softer. Fresh Foam X has laser holes cut into it which lessen its weight and increase its softness. At first sight the white midsole looks a bit like a marshmallow which can be easily compressed and indented. With the shoes in hand you realise that this isn’t the case. The midsole is sturdy and responsive and comes even better into its own in combination with the advantages of the new design of the outsole. If you look critically at the shoe, you notice that the shoes have a bit of a curve. New Balance calls this a “rocker”. This curve in the sole helps improve the heel-to-toe transition. Thanks to this curve you will experience some forward propulsion at the end of each step. This helps you kill those miles.

Comfy upper

At New Balance, they paid careful heed to the fans of the 1080 series. On the basis of their feedback New Balance has improved a number of elements in the upper. The heel part of the 1080v9 tended to be a bit too wide and unstable. New Balance immediately tackled this problem by adding a larger heel cap with an ergonomic shape. This keeps your heel well in place without causing irritation. The embroidery on the midfoot not only provides a fashionable look but also ensures some additional reinforcement. Together with the Hypoknit engineered mesh upper, this ensures a good, snug fit. Stretch fabric is used in the upper directly above the toes so that the shoe shapes itself completely after your feet.

“Soft built smarter”

The Fresh Foam technology has been a very popular running shoe for years one end. This sturdy foam is used in most new New Balance models and ensures ultimate cushioning and support.

As mentioned above, in designing these 10th version New Balance has listened carefully to the positive and critical feedback on the 9th versions of the shoes. The New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v10 therefore really is a “next level” shoe when compared to its predecessor. Connoisseurs are enthusiastic about all the new features of the running shoes. We cannot wait to try these running shoes ourselves. At Running.shop we will have the black and white variant available in the fall and more colours will be available at the start of 2020.
